RTV-1 silicone sealants

These are single-component products, curable at room temperature.

The most remarkable properties include:
• Ease of application.
• Little variation in viscosity with temperature changes.
• Permanent elasticity.
• Resistance to atmospheric agents.
• Resistance to temperature (-30ºC to +150 ºC).
• Chemical resistance.
• Good adhesion to a wide variety of mediums.
• Complete range of colours.

The two main parameters that make silicone sealants different are:

1. The curing system
• Acetic
• Alkoxy
• Oxyme

2. The mechanical properties
• 0.50 MPa high modulus silicones
• 0.35 MPa medium modulus silicones
• 0.25 MPa low modulus silicones

The selection of a sealant-adhesive for a particular application depends on the nature of the medium and the end function of the joint.
Acrylic putties

In these putties, the drying process does not involve a chemical reaction; the water simply evaporates. Once dry, they resist atmospheric agents well, but they must never be applied in joints that are in constant contact with water. Their field of application is in construction, and their shelf life in the cartridge is very long.

Their primary characteristics are:
• They are single-component
• They are easy to apply with a gun
• They do not peel
• They are non-toxic and do not give off solvents
• They do not stain the joint
• They can be painted
Polyurethane

These putties are vulcanised by a chemical reaction, and the speed of curing depends on the temperature and level of humidity.

They are the most appropriate sealant passable joints, because of their:
• Good elongation and recovery capacity
• Excellent resistance to abrasion and peeling.
• High level of hardness
• Good adhesion

Their main fields of application are:
• Construction
• Automotive
• Civil engineering
Hybrid sealants

These sealants are designed to obtain the best properties of silicones and of polyurethane, and they are greatly popular because:
• They can be applied to wet surfaces.
• They are single-component and react to ambient humidity.
• They offer good adhesion to all types of materials.
• They do not contract during curing.
• They can be painted.
• They resist aging well.
• They have good mechanical properties.
